Bastille Day Part 1 : Parade at Champs-Élysées

One of things that was on my bucket list was to experience Bastille Day in France and what better place to do it than in Paris? I woke up really early to get to the famous Champs-Élysées around 8.30 am so that I could find a good spot to watch the parade. After a full body pat down and throwing away my water bottle for security reasons, I was allowed in the section blocked off to watch the parade. The parade started all the way from the Arc de Triomphe and came down the avenue Champs-Élysées.

Nothing really happened until about 10 am when the president arrived. Then there was a long speech which I understood parts of. The parade started with mounted troops followed by the tri-colour opening fly past, jets and a whole lot of military ground vehicles. It was amazing to see all the different camouflaged vehicles in the French army.

The crowd was applauding without pause for the hard work of these people.

And then finally, it was the helicopter troops to end the amazing parade.

I am so glad I woke up early and went to see the parade as it was an experience I will never forget. The energy, the pride in the air, it was spectacular to see and feel. In the next post, I will share the evening picnic & fireworks photos.
