Henry Darger & the Vivian Girls

Last month, I saw the Henry Darger exhibition at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. It was a very interesting art exhibition. Henry Darger was a writer and artist born in Chicago who worked in a hospital and his art was discovered posthumously. He had briefly served in the US Army and you can see how his work is affected by his experience of war. He created a fantasy world with characters called the Vivian Girls & other colourful creatures such as Blenginglomenean Snakes. I found his art to be really raw and very unique. It was full of colour and it was clear that the concept came straight from his imagination. It was very inspiring to see.
