Yes, I visited the sewers of Paris! Don’t worry, you don’t just go down a random manhole. There is a proper Paris Sewers Museum or in French, Musée des égouts de Paris. It is a bit smelly, no doubt, but it was quite an interesting visit.
Isobel & I just finished at the Warhol Unlimited exhibiton and were walking aimlessly, looking for something to do when we saw this sign on the street. To be honest, I had no idea what it meant but Isobel pointed out that it was the sewers. It got us both intrigued and we inquired about it. The entry was very cheap so we decided to visit. What the heck!
I had no idea that all this stuff laid beneath the beautiful boulevards of Paris. One funny thing was that the main collection point was just below Avenue Bosquet which is where I stayed when I first came to Paris. At that time, I was oblivious to all that was going on below.
If you’re looking for something off-beat to do in Paris and don’t have a big budget, this is a good place to visit.
